Staveley Carnival is run by Staveley Carnival Cooperative. We are a group of local people passionate about using the arts to inspire a sense of community. We formed in 2000 and founded the Staveley Carnival Community Arts Project. The biennial project runs for the 2 months prior to the carnival weekend employing local artists to run workshops in Costume Making, Drumming and performance arts. Workshops happen in Staveley and surrounding schools and communities.
All the costumes are made from recycled materials and the procession is fuel free resulting in the carnival being dubbed ‘ The North West’s Greenest Carnival!’
Staveley Carnival always runs on an even year with the Carnival weekend falling on the last weekend before the Cumbrian Schools break up for summer.
